Spherical plain bearings are designed to handle radial and axial loads while allowing angular misalignment between a shaft and housing. They feature an inner ring with a spherical outside diameter running inside a matching outer ring, enabling smooth oscillating movement where traditional bearings would bind.
They are available in a range of material combinations to suit different applications. Steel-on-steel designs offer high load capacity and durability but typically require lubrication. Maintenance-free variants use liners such as PTFE, PTFE fabric, or composite materials, providing low friction performance without the need for relubrication. Stainless steel options are also available for improved corrosion resistance in harsh or washdown environments.
