Combined Needle Bearing

Product Information

An NX bearing is a type of combined needle roller bearing that integrates:

  1. A needle roller bearing for handling radial loads
  2. A thrust ball bearing for handling axial loads in one direction

What makes NX bearings unique is that they are non-locating, compact, and often supplied as open or sealed units, making them well-suited for space-constrained applications that require support for both radial and axial forces.

Structure of an NX Bearing

  • Needle roller cage assembly: Supports the radial load and provides high load capacity in a small footprint.
  • Thrust ball bearing: Supports axial load in one direction.
  • Outer ring: Commonly drawn-cup style with a thin wall to save space.
  • Sealing (optional): Some variants (e.g., NX...Z or NX...2Z) include seals on one or both sides to keep lubrication in and contaminants out.

Key Features

  • Handles radial and axial loads simultaneously
  • Axial load supported in one direction only
  • Compact and lightweight design
  • Available in open or sealed versions
  • Often used where axial guidance is not needed, or is provided separately

Common Applications

  • Textile machinery
  • Printing machines
  • Packaging equipment
  • Compact gearboxes
  • Medical devices and automation systems

Example

NX20 – A bearing for a 20 mm shaft that handles both radial loads via needle rollers and axial load in one direction through a thrust ball bearing.

NX20Z – Same as above but with a seal on one side.

If you’re choosing between NX and NKX/NKXR series, it usually comes down to axial load direction, load capacity, and whether a sealed version is needed. Let me know if you want help finding the right one for your application.
